Having trained as a Chartered Accountant in Birmingham in the late 80’s, I came to the area in 1995 to join a small firm in Ross. The firm happened to be the auditors of the Orchard Trust and I soon found myself sparring regularly with the CEO at the time, George Gordon-Smith.
I subsequently set up my own practice in Hereford, but in 2005 I decided that charity auditing was too much like hard work and handed over to Hazelwoods. George promptly recruited me to the board where I have been ever since.
As a professional accountant, it’s inevitable that I get to supervise the accounting function, deal with the auditors and so on. However I am delighted to be able to use my skills to help an organisation that cares for some of the most vulnerable members of society. The Trust does an outstanding job in an increasingly bureaucratic world and I am pleased to be a part of it.
